Meet the Little Coven: Three Witches, One Cauldron, No Witnesses
There is a particular kind of person who wants in on Halloween without any gore on the desk - nothing with teeth, nothing that frightens the colleague opposite, just something a little bit charming about the whole thing.
Say hello to the Little Coven: three witches who, between them, have never once been caught. Nyx plans it, Blaze does it, Marina cleans up after. Each one has legs that pivot, a hat that lifts off at the end of the day, and her own broom to ride.
Nobody has ever proved anything.
Nyx the Cat Witch - the one who plans it
There is a cat stone set into her hat band, and an alibi ready before anything has happened. Nyx does the quiet work: she knows which ingredient goes in last, which window was left open, and exactly how long you have before someone notices.
Her legs pivot, so she stands, sits, or swings a leg over the broom when it is time to leave. Lime green from brim to boots, deep purple underneath, wearing a look of mild surprise she has clearly been practising. Lift the hat off and the scheming stops for the day.
Nothing has happened. Nyx was nowhere near it.
Blaze the Fire Witch - the one who does it
The fire stone in her hat band is not decorative, and she has never once used it carefully. Blaze is not subtle and has never wanted to be: Nyx explains the plan, Blaze is already halfway through it, and Marina is on her way to handle the aftermath. The small pleased smile is not remorse.
Her legs pivot, so she stands, sits, or gets straight back on the broom. Warm orange under a black hat with a bright band, and white boots she has somehow kept spotless. Lift the hat off and everything settles.
It is fine. It is under control. It is mostly under control.
Marina the Wave Witch - the one who cleans up
The water stone in her hat band does the work, and by the time she leaves there is nothing left to find. Ask her what happened and she will tell you the water took it. Ask again and she will look genuinely sorry for you.
Her legs pivot, so she stands, sits, or takes the broom out when the tide needs turning. Pale blue under a wide sunshine-yellow brim, with little teal waves curling around the band. Lift the hat off and the tide goes out.
The water took it. That is all she is prepared to say.
The Little Coven Set - the whole operation
All three witches of the Little Coven, plus the cauldron they argue over. Between them they have never once been caught, and the cauldron in the middle is where most of it starts.

A pot of something green, still bubbling, with a keyboard switch hidden underneath it. Press down on the brew and it gives all at once, with a crisp click that travels up through the whole pot. The bubbles are raised, so your thumb finds the middle without looking, and the potion sits recessed in the rim where it can be properly mashed.

Most Halloween decor is enormous, cheap-looking, and in a bin by November 1st. The Little Coven is small, characterful, and made to stay - the kind of thing that moves in for October and does not leave when the month ends. That is either a feature or a problem, depending on your desk neighbours.
